PM Prayut attends ACMECS Summit and affirms Thailand’s readiness to produce, distribute COVID-19 vaccine

BANGKOK (NNT) - The 9th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit took place in the form of an online conference. One of the topics raised by Thailand’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, was Thailand’s readiness to produce and distribute COVID-19 vaccine as a public good to ACMECS member countries at a reasonable price by mid-2021.
The Prime Minister informed the ACMECS representatives about an agreement to reserve doses of COVID-19 vaccine from a British company. It is expected to be approved for production by mid-2021. Thailand is ready to treat such medicines and vaccines as public goods, so that people in the Mekong region will have access to them equally, and they will be reasonably priced.
Thailand is ready to contribute 200 million US dollars to the ACMECS Fund. The country also supports the establishment of the ACMECS Secretary-General Office, in order to push strategies and support the work of ACMECS member countries and their partners.
The 9th ACMECS Summit was attended by leaders of four other member countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretary-General. Cambodia hosted the meeting on the theme "Partnership for Connectivity and Resilience" with the main issue being the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
