Gov’t sets EV promotional policy

BANGKOK(NNT) - In an attempt to promote Thailand as the capital of the electric vehicle industry, the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee met today to discuss tax benefits for the construction of charging stations throughout the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak today convened a meeting of the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee at the Ministry of Industry, where he stated the goal of Thailand becoming Asia’s capital of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing.
To achieve this goal, the government has commissioned the Board of Investment (BOI) and related agencies to consider offering investment packages to attract investors, especially parts and battery manufacturers.
Thailand aims to produce 60,000 electric vehicles by the year 2022.
The committee agreed that further promotion among the public, government agencies and motorcycle users is necessary to encourage them to switch to electric vehicles. Some of these promotions may include tax benefits, exemption of fees and the construction of more charging stations across the country.
The construction of more charging stations will be managed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and PTT.
