His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born on Monday, December 5th, 1927 at Mouth Auburn hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States of America, being the third and youngest child of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla and Her royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Boromrajajonani . His older sister, the late Princess Galyani Vadhana, was born on May 6th, 1923 in London, the United Kingdom, while His older brother, Prince Ananda Mahidol was born in Heidelberg, Germany on September 20th, 1925.
His Majesty’s name Bhumibol Adulyadej means Strength of the Land Incomparable Power, the interpretation of which has later become prophetic as it can be witnessed by the advancement of His Majesty’s Reign through various critical periods. The nation has become increasingly progressing having the Throne as the sole foundation of unity and strength.
As a result of His birth, Prince Bhumibol Adulyadej has become a direct grandson of His Late Majesty King Chulalongkorn or Rama V, who was renowned for the great reforms which he brought to the nation putting Thailand on with the rest of the Western-orientated world.

Prince Mahidol and his royal family returned to Thailand in 1928, and a year after when His Majesty was only 1 year and 9 months old, his royal father, Prince Mahidol passed away.
After a brief period of primary schooling in Bangkok, He and his royal family went to Switzerland for his secondary education at the Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande, Chailly sur Lausanne and later received the Bachelieres Lettres diploma from the Gymnase Classique Cantonal of Lausanne.
Then on March 2nd, 1934 there came the abdication of the throne of His Majesty King Prachathipok, Rama VII, which resulted in Prince Ananda Mahidol being asked by the then government to ascend to the throne as King Rama VIII of the Royal House of Chakri. Prince Bhumibol Adulyadej was still pursuing his study in a university in Switzerland at the time, not being aware of the fact that his course of life was about to change completely before long. On the 9th. of June 1946, his elder brother, King Ananda Mahidol, passed away in Bangkok, hence given the Law of Succession bestowed on him the arduous but challenging function of the Thai Crown. His Majesty then returned to Switzerland again in order to pursue his study in Political Science and Law so that he would have acquired knowledge required as the King of the nation. After finishing his study, His Majesty returned to Thailand in 1950 for his Coronation Ceremony that took place on May 5th.

After ascending the throne for a while, His Majesty met and became engaged on the 19th. of July 1949 to Mom Rajawongse Sirikit, daughter of His Highness Prince Chandaburi Suranath (Mom Chao Nakkhatra Mangala Kitiyakara) and Mom Luang Bua Kitiyakara (nee Mom Luang Bua Snidwongse). His Highness Prince Chandaburi Suranath was the third son of His Royal Highness Prince Chandaburi Narunath and Her Serene Highness Princess Absarasman Kitiyakara.
Their Majesties have 4 children together namely:
1. The Former Her Royal Highness Princess Ubol Ratana
2. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn
3. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
4. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn
His Majesty the King Bhumibol recently celebrated his 80th birthday last year. He has been highly respected and beloved by all citizens residing in the nation. He is a center of all citizens and he stands as a figure of which the nation has put above any.
