BANGKOK, 19 September 2019 (NNT) - The Ministry of Culture is encouraging Thai people to preserve Thai fabric by wearing Thai fabrics in everyday life through a campaign in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
Nine exquisitely tailored Thai costumes with outstanding designs were displayed at the event to launch the project for the preservation and wearing of Thai fabrics. They included a hand-embroidered robe made from hemp fabric from Lamphun and a Tai Lue dress made from cotton and hemp fabric and decorated with Jok cloth. They were designed for daily wear.
The project is aimed at honoring Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty’s 87th Birthday Anniversary on August 12, 2019 and to commemorate Her Majesty’s benevolence. Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother has been working to preserve Thai heritage, especially Thai fabrics, and has also been a role model by wearing Thai cloth to successfully promote its popularity and fame.
The Minister of Culture has also called on people to recognize the value and importance of Thai fabrics and to wear Thai cloth in daily life. He urged people of the new generation to wear Thai cloth and preserve the cultural heritage.
