MAKKAH, 14 August 2019 (NNT) - Today was the last day for pilgrims to stay in Mina and the stone throwing ritual will begin as sunset approaches. Pilgrims will throw stones at 3 pillars. Each individual needs to throw 7 stones at each pillar, which symbolizes the cleansing of Satan and bad things.
In the morning, before leaving for the stone throwing ritual, pilgrims arranged a farewell ceremony, which included exchanges lessons and opinions on incorporating the experience from Hajj into life back home. Especially the experience of the journeys in Mina, Arafah and Muzdalifah, when pilgrims’ physical tenacity, sacrifice, and responsibility were tested. They are expected to change their behavior for the better. Moreover, pilgrims asked for forgiveness from one another for any harm or grudges they might hold throughout the period of Hajj. This enables the pilgrims to complete their pilgrimage with pure soul and body.
After the stone throwing ritual, pilgrims will return to Makkah to walk around the Black Stone. They will also do Saae, which is walking back and forth between Safa and Marwa, thereby completing Hajj. The male pilgrims, who have successfully completed Hajj, are called Haji and for female pilgrims, they are called Hajjah. Finally, the successful pilgrims will return home to Thailand, with the first flight scheduled to depart Saudi Arabia on August 17th.
