BANGKOK, 2 June 2019 (NNT) - After the Palang Pracharath Party formally invited the Democrat Party to join its political alliance and form a coalition government, the Democrats remain undecided. However, the Democrats will call a meeting this Tuesday (June 4) to determine the party’s political direction before the two houses will vote on the new prime minister on Wednesday.
The Spokesman for the Democrat Party, Ramet Rattanachaweng, said his party remains undecided about joining the Palang Pracharath-led alliance because the Palang Pracharath Party has yet to respond to the Democrats’ demand for constitutional amendments as well as the agricultural insurance scheme. Mr. Ramet said the Democrat Party is not trying to negotiate for cabinet positions. On Tuesday, the party will call a meeting with its MPs to discuss the party’s political direction and the vote for prime minister the following day. Mr. Ramet said all members of the Democrat Party will follow the meeting’s resolution.
When reporters asked Mr. Ramet about Democrat core member Abhisit Vejjajiva’s stance against Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Spokesman said the Democrat Party remains united and all members of the party will stick to its resolution and work in the same direction.
