BANGKOK, 2 June 2019 (NNT) - The increase of the price of para rubber has reflected the government’s efforts to improve the rubber price situation, and one of the measures is using more para rubber in government projects.
The Deputy Government Spokesman, Lt. Gen. Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak, said the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, was satisfied with the recent increase of the para rubber price, with the price of smoked rubber sheet Grade 3 (ribbed smoked sheet No. 3 / RSS3) rising to the highest in six months to 55 baht and 71 satang. Thanks to the increased domestic consumption of rubber in Thailand, the domestic rubber prices are now higher than Malaysia’s. Local administrative organizations across Thailand have used rubber as a material in the construction of roads, covering a distance of 300,000 kilometers. More than one million tons of para rubber are being used to construct roads annually. The success of this project is apparent, after many rubber farmers complained about their hardships for over a decade. In the past, roads in rural and remote areas were unpaved. Now, these roads are constructed with a mixture of asphalt and para rubber. They are dirt-free and durable and last about three to five years.
The government also has a short-term measure to help 820,862 registered rubber growers. The government compensated them with 1,800 baht per rai. The project covers 7.8 million rai of rubber plantations and 91.11% of the farmers have been compensated so far.
With these measures, the government will be able to shore up the rubber prices efficiently.
