Defense Ministry organizes activities to mark Vesak Day

BANGKOK, 18th May 2019 (NNT) - The Ministry of Defense is inviting people to participate in merit making, alms offering and triple circumambulation. The Ministry of Defense has also organized an activity to promote morality and ethics on the occasion of Vesak Festival 2019.

Secretariat Department Deputy Director, General Lt. Gen. Worawit Malasan presided over the activity to promote morality and ethics on the occasion of the Vesak Day Festival 2019 at Rajapradit Sathit Mahasimaram Temple, to allow personnel of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense to make merit and preserve exquisite Buddhist tradition.

All ministries are offering activities during the Buddhism Promotion Week on the occasion of Vesak Day 2019, from May 12 – 18, 2019, to encourage Buddhists to observe Buddhist teachings.

Meanwhile, the Operation Coordination Center 1, Internal Security Operation Command, has organized the "Bowon" (home, temple and school) project, to create and steer the community to become a moral society that is stable, prosperous and sustainable. The project uses homes, temples and schools which are the three major centers of the community as mechanisms to develop and strengthen a community, act as the core of development, jointly solve community problems, adhere to the philosophy of sufficiency economy of King Rama IX as the main policy of the operation to create a "moral community" by organizing activities for children and youths to practice meditation to foster reconciliation using Buddhist the principles “Village of Five Precepts 5". Activities will be held at temples in 77 provinces nationwide during the week celebrating Vesak Day.
