BANGKOK, 31 July 2010 (NNT) – Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai indicated that her visit to Japan during 23-26 July 2010 was considerably successful, saying the Japanese government was willing to support the arrangement of export control system on dual use products.
As for the discussion with Mr Masayuki Naoshima, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, during the visit to Japan, Ms Porntiva cited that the Japanese government expressed appreciation to hear that Thai Cabinet approved the export control system over dual use products included goods and technology for both commercial and battle purpose and stated its readiness to support Thailand for the implementation of the system.
The Commerce Minister said that weapons of mass destruction currently had been broadened at a high rate and linked with international trade. The mentioned export control system to be formed in Thailand will help protect such kind of trade expansion and thus gain more confidence of Japanese investors.
The Thai side also asked for reconsideration by Japanese government on the limitation, under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA), of imported pineapples up to 900 kg weight, so that Thai pineapple of more than 1,000 kg can be allowed for the import, and to increase import quota of processed pork. The Japan side confirmed to review this matter by related agencies.
The Thai Government also proposes that Japan support all cooperation projects under JTEPA as well, particularly the auto industry.
