Camera-wired airship put on surveillance in 3 southern border provinces

PATTANI, 18 December 2009 (NNT) – A 350 million THB airship equipped with infrared cameras will be launched at the beginning of 2010 to keep surveillance of the violence in the deep South.

The infrared camera-wired airship is about to be assembled after the government has set aside a 350 million THB budget for the project. It is expected to be on duty from January next year.

Speaking during his visit to Pattani Task Force base, the Army Commander-in-Chief, General Anupong Paochinda, said he believed this strategic device would help solve the disturbance in the three southernmost provinces. These high-quality infrared cameras are capable of taking shots at both day and night time to reduce the blindspots during the military's suppression drive.
