BANGKOK, 24 July 2009 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has ordered the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to launch an inspection of the nation's eggs after artificial eggs were discovered in China. The ministry threatens serious punishment for smugglers of the dangerous fabrications.
Minister of Public Health Witthaya Kaewparadai has instructed the FDA to stringently check for artificial eggs that might enter the country from China. The minister said the smuggling and sale of fake eggs were in violation of product safety laws. Violators will face a 6-month to 1-year prison term with a fine of 5,000 to 100,000 baht.
Speaking on general public health matters, Mr Witthaya stated that his ministry has acknowledged the need to make medication for influenza A (H1N1) more accessible after seeing a hike in fatalities.
