Giant fireworks and sky lanterns banned during Loi Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai

Mayor of Nakhon Chiang Mai Municipality Capt.Dr.Duentemduang Na Chiangmai (เดือนเต็มดวง ณ เชียงใหม่) says the province prohibits the sale of giant fireworks and the floating of sky lanterns during the coming Loi Krathong Festival. Leaflets in Thai and English will be distributed to tourists to discourage them from floating the lanterns.

The mayor and her team have inspected firework shops in Talat Warorot (ตลาดวโรรส) Market in Mueang district. No giant fireworks or hazardous objects have been sold in the market, the team reported. The mayor said the province had issued a ban on giant fireworks as accidents from fireworks occur every year during the festival, causing injuries and disabilities.

The floating of sky lanterns are banned in areas with activities and crowded with people such as the all-purpose open area at Kuang Pratu Thaphae (ข่วงประตูท่าแพ), an area in front of the Nakhon Chiang Mai Municipality Office, and the surrounding area of the Three Kings Monument.
