ONCB to regulate internet cafes  
 
Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Pittaya Jinawat (¾Ô·ÂÒ ¨Ô¹ÒÇѲ¹ì) revealed points made in a tactical meeting with computer game related businesses focused on protecting and guarding against the pervasion of narcotics and also game addiction. The two bodies agreed that in recent times, child game addiction has become a social problem with studies finding that children enjoy congregating to spend time playing computer games in internet cafés, turning them into targets for drug peddlers and even gang recruiters.

The ONCB asked that the business group cooperate with the Internet Café Society of Thailand as well as online game producers to come up with ideas to remedy the situation. The office suggested that internet café’s attempt to make their services more positive and creative with activities that promote a better quality of life. Game developers have affirmed that they are ready to produce more positive games that are age appropriate but also evoke family participation, which they believe will be the best way to safeguard deviant behavior.
